Nashville Series 4 Episode 2 Review

Check out what our reviewers though!

The second episode of Nashville Series 4 was broadcast in the UK last night, and what did our Nashville Reviews think? Read on...

When Jeff Fordham shows concern, you know there is an ulterior motive!  You really gotta hand it to the snake, his manipulation of Avery and disregard for Juliette's problems, whilst constantly ignoring Layla really knows no bounds!

Layla again is cruelly ignored, her song at The Bluebird was brilliant, Rayna and Bucky were off closing a deal that in truth could save the label, but missing what a true talent they already have. Hopefully the light that is Glenn (Juliette's former manager) will give Layla some much needed attention.  The cracks are starting to show in Caleb, although I must be the only person who DOESN'T want Scarlett and Gunnar to get together.

But with THAT ending I'm sure she will be in his arms again before too long.  Feeling sorry for Will, dropped from the label because of his sexuality.  Which proves yet again, that for the PR people, image and the "brand" are the most Important.  Music and talent are sadly secondary.  Great duet by Maddie and Daphne as well.

First things first - it's great to have more music in this week's episode. We were treated to acoustic numbers from both Layla and the adorable Conrad Sisters, and an upbeat number from Juliette - I enjoyed it, but I think it's safe to say her daughter didn't! Even the headphones couldn't save her from tears aplenty during the number!

And it's not often that I agree with anything Jeff Fordham says but when he told Avery she's desperate to see you, she just doesn't know it, I had an inkling it would lead to a reconciliation, albeit a very short one. This story looks set top run and run, exploring the struggle that Juliette experiences between the lure of being a big star and the want to have her happy ever after.

Let's hope she makes the correct decision eventually. Scarlett and her mum seemed to be back on track, sharing a lovely moment of closeness but in true Nashville style that flipped 180 and we were left with the cliffhanger of is Bev really on the mend or not? We also got a little glimpse of a forthcoming storyline of the after effects of Teddy's dalliances and how it affects his children - didn't your poor heart break for little Daphne crying in the toilet?

We also saw the introduction of 2 new characters, Gabriella, publicist and obvious Luke Wheeler love interest, and Marcus, nailpolish wearing alt rocker Rayna is determined to sign to save her ailing label. Let's see how these newbies pan out next week and if they can make the cut!

Nashville's second episode shows us that Juliette seems to find a way back to Avery and baby Cadence but this is only shortlived and the storyline does not really offer anything new.

Meanwhile Rayna has to find another way to keep her label alive which should please her daughters as well. The always-in-the-shadow Layla does a great song at the Blue Bird Cafe which might open another door for her while Jeff seems to avoid her at all costs. Will gets dropped from the label by Luke and his storyline should have a bit more depth. Unfortunately no songs from Gunnar and Scarlett as they seem to plan their tour with a very distant Scarlett who is trying to believe she loves the doctor.

All in all a good solid episode that ends with an unexpected dramatic turn of events. But to speak with Rayna's word "Country is the new Rock'n Roll" and again, some more songs would have proofed this even more.
