Dolly's 'Rockstar' week

"Rockstar" made an impressive debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, which considers a blend of sales, streams, and more. This achievement surpassed Parton's prior best on that all-genre chart, which was No. 6, achieved in both 1987 and 2014. The album's success was notably bolstered by an overwhelming majority of 128,000 equivalent album units attributed to pure sales.

This week, Dolly Parton claimed the top spot, surpassing the likes of Drake, Taylor Swift, and even Morgan Wallen earlier this year. Her album "Rockstar" dominated sales, securing the No. 1 position across all genres and standing strong among the best in country music throughout 2023.

A tweet from Billboard Charts underscored that "Rockstar" holds the top position as the best-selling album of the week, surpassing albums by Taylor Swift and the Korean boyband Enhypen.

Drake and Swift's robust streaming numbers propelled them to the top spots on the Billboard 200 this week.

Reports from outlets like Forbes highlighted that out of Parton's 128,000 equivalent album units, a substantial 118,500 were from pure sales. By comparison, when Wallen released "One Thing at a Time" last winter, 111,500 of his 501,000 units were pure sales.

The triumph of "Rockstar" aligned with a massive media push in the last month, marked by numerous interviews in print, online, and on television. Additionally, her Thanksgiving Day performance during the halftime of the NFL game on CBS added to the album's exposure.

While there were speculations about whether "Rockstar" would clinch the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, Parton didn't quite reach that pinnacle. Nonetheless, she did secure the top spot on the Billboard Country Albums chart for the week, marking her first No. 1 for a non-holiday album since "Pure & Simple" in 2016.
